The MVS provides realistic waveform, stroke volumes, and pressure gradient across the mitral valve, with customized, patient specific valve models. The user can interactively adjust chordae length while the system is in operation. The valve models can be surgically repaired and the repairs can be evaluated both visually and also using transesophageal and (optionally) transthoracic echocardiography. The system is self-contained, portable, and works with water or blood mimicking fluid. Both surgical and transcatheter repairs are possible.
